Why Lagos State differs from other states.
Lagos is a state located in the southwestern geopolitical zone of the Country (Nigeria). It is a highly urbanized region of the country as it is the Nation’s largest urban area. Lagos State on the North and East is bounded by Ogun state, in the West it shares boundaries with the Republic of Benin and behind its southern borders lies the Atlantic Ocean
. Lagos state is known for its financial activities making it move towards the fifth(5th) largest economy in Africa.
Lagos state stands out of the 36 states in the Federation due to some factors it possesses making it highly recognizable and appreciated in the country. Below are five cogent factors that distinguish Lagos from other states in the country:

-          Physical Attributes-:Lagos state possesses some physical attributes which has made it special over time, some of these physical attributes includes quality of location, topography, attractive and favorable climate, availability of water bodies for different purposes. E.g lagoon.
Talking about the quality of location of Lagos State, it is suitably located as it is found in the southwestern geopolitical zone of Nigeria. It has a moderate temperature, pressure and moderate relative humidity.
About its topographical features, it has a balanced and well-structured shape of the surface of the earth, though it has highlands and lowlands, but they are variable equal and balanced in all aspects. Also, Lagos state is free of mountains, hills and other elevated land forms unlike Ogun State and some other states that are mainly made up of rocks and hills. These attributes has made activities and movement of people free and without disturbance and has attracted more people into the state.

-          Accessibility to economic activities: This is another factor that has made Lagos stand out from the rest states. As it is known, there are lots of economic activities going on in Lagos State, and this has led to the increased population of people in the state. There Is an early connection with the outside world in Lagos State. There are manufacturing factories, market places for buying and selling, large scale/small scale companies, airport both local and international, self-established enterprises etc., and all this has created convenience among the people of Lagos state. Take for instance, I want to get a piece of cloth, there is no need for me going to Aba or Onitsha when I can easily get it at my back yard. Lagos state also houses the Lagos port complex, where importation and exportation of goods and commodities take place. This is a major economic activity of the Nation, therefore, for Lagos to have a port in it which is Africa’s biggest shipping port and one of the busiest in the world, then you should really know that Lagos state will be very important to the people and also the government of the Nation.

-           Neighborhood Amenities: Lagos state comprises some neighborhood hood amenities that can’t be found elsewhere in other states of the country.  Such amenities include Shopping areas, highly specialized medical facilities, schools, institutions, playing grounds, social infrastructures, amusement parks, and other minor or major needs of human. All of these are lacking in some states in Nigeria but Lagos State has all of these in abundance. Some states might just have 4-5 shopping malls but they are uncountable in Lagos.

-          Transport linkages: This is another important factor that has distinguished Lagos from other states. There is ease of movement of people from one place to the other. The transport route is well defined and laid out, either from the highland to the mainland. With the invention of BRT (Babatunde Raji Transit) buses, there has been reduction in the cost of movement of people in Lagos from one place to the other. Am not sure these buses or other luxurious buses are found elsewhere in the country. Also, the 3rd mainland bridge, the longest in Nigeria and second longest in Africa after Cairo Bridge in Egypt is found in Lagos. Where else can you find that in Nigeria?. Don’t forget, Lagos is gradually becoming a smart city.

-          Social needs: Lagos State is also known for its first class social life it exhibits. Lagos state is full of life. In terms of dressing, eating, grooving, having fun, meeting different type of people, young talents, youth empowerment and the rest. Lagos state has these in excess; therefore everyone wants to be in the state. As you all know that all work without play makes Jack a dull boy. So after working hard, and hustling throughout the whole week or month, there are always places to have yourself relax depending on how you want it.
