WHAT I SAW WHEN I WENT TO IGBO LAND
Igbos have technological prowess- Adisa
Dr. Ogunfolakan Adisa alongside other archaeologists have
called on the funding of museums by the Federal government in order
to make
them attractive to indigenous and foreign tourist.
Vanguard reports that this call was made during
International Museum day which took place at the Museum of National Unity on
Tuesday May 23.
Dr. Adisa at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife said the
museums need to be kept alive as they played vital roles in National
Development.
“Museums plays vital role in national development. For instance, the artefacts of Civil War, Kiriji War involving Ijesa and Ibadan which are in our museum will constantly remind us that war is not good and that we should toe the path of peace.
“When I went to Igboland, I saw the technology prowess of igbos, some war equipment they manufactured during the civil war,if not for museum which have all these artefacts, how do we know about African Technology?
“We have to help these. In developed world, you see people coming out to help. Our museums in Nigeria are dying. I call on well-meaning Nigerians to come to the aid of museums so that they can perform well”, he said.
